What is a Tunit?
The Tunit is an interactive computer which, through extensive research and development, exploits the full potential of modern diesel engines. Individual programming and re-mapping of the vehicle injection signals enables this simple-to-fit device to increase bhp by up to 25% and torque by up to 35%. This extra power is delivered in a smooth progressive way which improves the drive as well as overall performance. Torque (pulling power) is delivered lower down and lasts much longer throughout the rpm range, making the Tunit ideal for any number of applications including towing, carrying heavy loads or just a great drive. Being fitted externally to your vehicle’s engine control unit (ECU), the Tunit is readily transferable to other vehicles allowing you to tune your nextvehicle cost effectively.
How does it work?
The Tunit works by the careful modification of the interplay between engine parameters, altering fuel and air characteristics to create smooth power gains. Accelerator, air mass and load readings are accurately used by the Tunit to calculate and deliver the alterations to the vehicle’s own signals with digital precision and speed. Only the in-depth research and development that has been carried out makes the Tunit so successful.
More power is delivered throughout the rpm range, but more importantly, it’s delivered lower down by innovative re-mapping of the engine management system. This produces progressive power gain without sudden surges or drop-offs. Turbo boost is not directly altered, so there is no strain on engine components.
The Tunit is truly unique in that it can be individually tuned to each and every vehicle. This is a distinct advantage as each vehicle is different, with its own characteristics. Two vehicles of the same make and model, manufactured on the same day will perform differently. The Tunit compensates for this with a simple manual adjustment allowing optimum performance for all vehicles - optimum performance also means optimum fuel economy.
The Tunit is designed to increase the engine performance well within set tolerances, thus protecting your engine. However, we can also safely enhance your driving pleasure with extras such as intercoolers and filters, giving up to another 25% extra performance.
Adjustability
As such, each engine has different characteristics and it is
important to be able to alter the power delivery for each one. As an example,
several vehicles produced on the same production line will drive and perform
differently.
If tuning them with a fixed map (no adjustment) device,
each one will achieve varied results and outputs. Some will show
good improvements others not so. The Tunit will compensate for any variance
your vehicle had to start with. The Tunit can also provide up to 10% better
fuel economy (even with automatic transmissions). This is achieved by more
efficient and less frequent gear changing, as has been shown through continuous
trials on trucks and HGVs where fuel economy is essential.
There are two methods of adjustment:
Manual adjustment - available on all Tunits, this is simply done via a 9 position rotary switch. The Tunit once set then needs no further alterations.
Laptop tuning - this is a more detailed fine tune we provide, which can alter many more parameters and is often used with specific applications such as towing or when enhancing the performance in conjunction with larger intercoolers, exhausts, induction units, injectors etc. Your Tunit can be `laptop tuned` at the time of purchase or at any time in the future. This can be carried out by our network of distributors throughout the UK and worldwide.
Installation
Most Tunits have been designed so that a person with competent DIY skills would be able to install them. In most cases the Tunit comes with original adapter plugs, so it can be installed easily and quickly. The Tunit can just as easily be removed for servicing or transferred to another vehicle. For those who wish fitting to be done for them, this is available throughout the distributor network.
Service and Aftersales
Each Tunit distributor will provide upgrades, tuning adjustments
and are able to install any of our products. Some distributors will provide
a Rolling Road Dyno service also. For any technical queries that arise
your local distributor can provide professional and useful information
as well as an excellent aftersales service long after you have purchased
your Tunit. When you are ready to upgrade your vehicle, you can part exchange
